Joshua 'Gooders' Goodwin Most of us have now heard the dreadful news of local lad Joshua Goodwin losing his life after an asthma attack whilst playing football, and our thoughts go out to Josh's family at this most terrible time. It is times like this that put football back into perspective and makes us remember that football is merely a game. A great game admittedly, that can bring many joys and sorrows, but at the end of the day just a game. Yet it is through football that made Josh 'one of us'- a lover of the beautiful game. Josh felt the joy of playing a great pass, or the thrill of hitting a screaming shot past a helpless keeper from distance or timing a tackle to perfection to an encore of praise from parents and fans alike. He loved this game of ours and harboured the same boyish dreams as us all of making it pro. By all accounts the lad had talent and wore the Range Rovers number 4 shirt with pride and will be sadly missed by all who knew him. Yes, football is just a game, but a game Josh loved and that makes him, 'One of Us'

CHARITY DAY I never knew young Joshua personally but I certainly felt his memory at the Charity Day. The outpouring of support and respect was very much evident during the whole of the day with people giving generously to the Joshua Goodwin Asthma Foundation set up by his mum Carla. The target of raising £500 was easily surpassed and still counting. All teams participating showed enormous respect for Joshua with a minutes clapping before each of the games and it took a lot of resolve not to be moved seeing the various pictures of Joshua around the venue and people, young and old, celebrating his life. Thanks must go to all teams, Park Regis, Bearsted U11s, Sheerness East U11s, Bar One Reserves, Harps, The Goodwin Team and Bar One for taking part, especially as most had games the following day. Special thanks to Bar One for getting their faces painted to boost the funds to the tune of £70. All in all it was a great day with great weather befitting a great lad. |
